With tax season quickly approaching, it’s important to know two things: how to complete your taxes, and by when you need to do so. Very few things can be as stressful as questioning how to fill out the various forms your taxes can require, let alone in a time crunch or worse, late. We at Hacker wanted to share a few important dates with you in regards to this year’s upcoming tax season, to prepare you for all of the days you should know.

Bonus: How Do I Estimate How Much Tax I Owe?

Tax Deadline – Tuesday, April 18, 2017

I know what you’re thinking – isn’t the last day to file my taxes typically the 15th? Yes, however this year, April 15th is a Saturday, and the Monday following is Emancipation Day, making Tuesday the official deadline for this year. Three extra days to make sure your 2016 are filed correctly, and make sure you’ve taken advantage of all of the exemptions possible!

Tax Extensions Deadline – Tuesday, October 16th, 2017

Need more time filing your tax return? Than this is a date you should definitely mark down into your calendar. While this date does not extend the amount of time you have to pay off your debts to the IRS, it does however give you six more months to double check and submit your tax return.

Tax Amendment – April 15th, 2020

I know this seems a little too far in advance to be warning you about now, but if you need to file an Amended Return to pay taxes due anytime, you can extend your deadline by 3 years from the original due date to declare a tax refund.
